It has been twenty-two months since Cambodia has lived in the grasp of the Coronavirus.

All major segments of Cambodia’s economy are affected. Most of the peoples works in factories, tourism or farming. Due to the pandemic, factories are either closed or cut back; agriculture export severely curtailed; and tourism (which accounts for 37% of the country’s GDP) is currently nonexistent. Cambodia lacks social welfare system to support their citizens during such an unprecedented event. Many Cambodians have exhausted their saving, taken our personal loans, and sold their personal belongings to survive.

Here, at Phoenix International Foundation, we have regularly traveled to Cambodia since 2018. Through our relationships with our Cambodian partners, we developed a grassroot Emergency Food Sustainability program to support the immediate needs of several villages on the brink of hunger.

The Food Sustainability focuses on three farming programs: fish farming, chicken farming, and vegetable farming. The program will provide interest free loans and technical assistance for families to establish family farms. Each farm will be able to provide food and income to sustain a family. The original loan will be repaid over a year. This return of investment will enable us to grow the program and to support more families.

Our first phase is to provide support for 200 families in the rural villages in the Siem Reap region. Our projected budget is US$56,000.

This is a grassroot effort that will be supervised by Phoenix International Foundation and our local partners. There are widespread discontents among citizens, and uproars are frequent. Impending famine is now a distinct possibility.

We need your help now to avert the humanitarian disaster.

Cambodia has been forgotten.

The Covid-19 infection is raging inside the country and the border is still closed. Now, the needs for medical care in developing countries are greater. We are organizing a telemedicine platform so Phoenix International doctors can continue to care for Cambodians even when we can not visit personally.

Current situation in Cambodia

Cambodia reported very few COVID cases to the WHO; however, according to our friends on the ground, there are increased number of unexplained death from the local hospitals. Due to the inefficient health care system in Cambodia, it is widely believed that there are inadequate testing and under reporting of COVID cases. Cambodia is currently in a lock down, and international NGO are prohibited to enter high infection areas to provide aids. Many areas are isolated and in desperate need of help. Phoenix International Foundation with your help would like to continues our medical outreach via telemedicine.

Our wish list:

Sojro Telemedicine Kit -This innovative telemedicine kit opens a new world of medical care for people living in remote communities with limited access to health services. This kit includes a telemedicine devices, access to telemedicine apps and a variety of services, including: a secure platform for uploading images and seeking consultations from specialists in other parts of the world; access to e-training; and one-on-one medical consultation via video conference. With an wifi card, we are able to provide care to anywhere with wireless data signal is available.

Each kit contains:
Dermascope (Wired- Sojro brand)
ENT scope (Wired- Sojro brand)
Vital Signs Monitor with ECG
Android Tablet
eSteth Lite Digital Stethoscope
MDConsults Telemedicine Software
Wireless keyboard and Mouse
Power Bank
Briefcase style with hard cover

When we do, we can provide desperately needed medical care to remote villages outside of Siem Reap, Cambodia. Currently, villagers all over the country are suffering from common tropical infections, musculoskeletal ailment due to chronic overuse, diabetes, hypertension and gastrointestinal diseases. We will link them with our volunteer medical providers to provide check up, treat acute illnesses, and to monitor ongoing chronic diseases.

Your donation will help us purchase 2 telemedicine units. This units will be deployed to the Siem Reap and Oddar Meancheay regions.

Medical outreach to rural villages in Siem Reap, Cambodia
July 4th to 14th ,2019
Cambodia is a charming Asian country with beautiful landscapes, traditions, and friendly people. Yet, it endured a painful past from the Khmer Rouge. Cambodia is now in its third decade of peace and economic growth. It has made great strides in reducing poverty and health improvement. Despite these gains, significant obstacles remain. Democracy and human rights continue to be a challenge, natural resources have been rapidly depleted through illegal logging and poaching, inadequate nutrition has stunted over 30 percent of children, and human trafficking still persists.

Cambodian citizens are responsible for a large share of their healthcare expenses. While healthcare in large city is adequate, healthcare services are minimal to nonexistence in the rural villages. Traveling to the cities from rural villages to receive treatment is cost prohibiting. Many of them have not received checkups or medical treatments for many years.

Since 2018, Phoenix International Foundation, in partnership with Save Elephant Foundation, leads a medical outreach in a remote village of Oddar Meanchey province. PIF provides medical examination and medical treatment to a variety of illnesses. In 2019, Phoenix International Foundation and the Province of Oddar Meanchey entered into a memorandum of understanding to cooperate in the medical outreach effort in the villages.

In July 2019, we will again return to Cambodia to continue our outreach efforts. This upcoming mission will expand to the outlying villages in the Siem Reap area.

The first part of the mission we will be based in Siem Reap: each day we will be commuting to a different village to provide medical evaluation for local villagers.
The second part of the mission we will be traveling to the Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary, we will be housed in huts situated inside the parks. We will be setting up clinic within the sanctuary and villagers will come to our medical camp for checkup.
We will be providing transportation and a Kamer interpreter for each volunteer.
The cost of the trip is US$700.00. This will include all land transportation, hotel accommodation while in Siem Reap, accommodation in the elephant park. Three meals daily and travel insurance.
What is not included: Round trip flight, visa, and personal expenses.
Following are some resource for our volunteer to raise fund for the mission trip:
